Dutch Wonderland Adventures

Friday, August 10, 2018

Last Sunday we spent the day at Dutch Wonderland in gorgeous Lancaster PA and I am so excited to share with you some of the highlights about our day, along with some tips for your visit!

The first thing that you immediately notice when you arrive at the park is that it is geared towards the younger crowd. Which is e x a c t l y what I loved most of all.
You know that sense of feeling overwhelmed that you can so quickly experience at some amusement parks? That was missing from Dutch Wonderland. Instead there was space to move, short lines and happy faces all around.

The lack of lines would rank very high on my list of positives. Most of us have experienced the hell on earth of standing in a 30+ minute line with antsy kids in the summer heat. I am not sure if Saturdays are different but on this Sunday, the lines were beautifully short. Maybe 5-10 children in front of us, all of which were able to hop on the ride at the same time.

Back to the park being geared towards the younger crowd:
THEY CAN RIDE ALMOST EVERYTHING!
When you have a 6 year old who hates big rides and a 3 year old who is adventurous but very tiny for his age, this was a lifesaver. They both felt like they could look around, select the ride they thought looked awesome and ride with confidence.

Another huge highlight to the day was the Dinosaur Exploration area. There is mining, dinosaur digging for all of our little paleontologist out there and a beautifully shaded walking path filled with moving dinosaurs for kids to explore.
Not only do they move, but some of them have controls that the children are able to work. It provided a nice break from the heat and the kids were in awe!

The staff was friendly and helpful, there are goodies such as pretzels, dole whip, dip n dots, popcorn etc. sprinkled all throughout the park, and there are several shows every day that you can easily catch while walking around! Singers, divers, the princess and of course our favorite, Duke the Dragon.
They offer character breakfasts, special events during the holidays and a water park that is also geared towards the younger crowd.

We left there exhausted, fulfilled and with smiles on our faces.
I am very excited to take the boys back there this Fall. I can picture how gorgeous the property will be on a cool and crisp day.

Park Tips:

  • They allow one water bottle per person-Bring them!
  • A backpack is super helpful, especially if you plan to use the water park
  • You are allowed to bring in small snacks-again, bring them!
  • Measure your children on their gem sign when you first arrive that way you can easily see which rides your child is tall enough for (but again, most children can ride most rides)
  • If you ask for a wristband in guest services they will provide one for each of your children and you can write your emergency contact information on them and then secure them to your child's wrist
  • Have single dollar bills on you if you use the water park so you can use a locker

Thank you again to Dutch Wonderland for hosting my family! I definitely recommend that you head on over to Dutch Wonderland if you are on the East Coast and have little ones!

*Dutch Wonderland provided complimentary tickets for us to explore the park but these opinions are completely my own.
