"Eyebrows Speak Louder Than Words"
Brows, brows, brows. I have to admit, they are something that I tend to obsess over. I notice them and pay attention to my own. The process of understanding my brows, and the importance of brows in general, is something that took me *quite* some time. I wanted to share not only some tips and tricks with you on how I personally take care of mine but also show you some of the errors I have made along the way.
Brows really do frame your face and can completely change the way you appear and apply makeup. Look at how much eyelid space I have gained over the years by opening up and shaping those suckers!
Below are my three phases for achieving your best brow on your own!
The progression of my own brows during the phases...
Needless to say, I have gone through some trials and errors before finally reaching that bottom shot.
Needless to say, I have gone through some trials and errors before finally reaching that bottom shot.
Phase one: Control the tweezer obsession!
It can be SO easy to get going with a set of tweezers and over-pluck. But over-plucking can be detrimental to your brows. It's very important to know which hairs need to go and which should stay. Plucking too many, too often can lead to permanent eyebrow hair loss. And trust me, see the top image, it takes a long time for that to come back. I removed virtually all of my inner corner hairs, which is now of my favorite area of my brows.

I use tweezers, but it's all about knowing what should stay and what should go.
One tip I have learned is to always pluck from under the brow.
There will be a few stragglers up top that need to go, but for the most part you should be creating the shape you desire by removing the unwanted hairs on the bottom.
Instead of plucking the top, use nail scissors like this to control them:

Using a spoolie, brush the hairs upward and carefully trim the bushy ones that are too long.
Phase two: Less is more.
In today's day and age there are *so* many brow products on the market. It's very easy to want to dive in and go overboard. See the middle image above. During this stage I was just learning about filling in brows. I would take a shadow or a brow pencil and go to town, not utilizing the spooling, and totally forgetting about shape. This stage was all about filling those suckers in thick, dark and ahem, unfortunately straight. You want to find the product that works best for you and the shade that works best for you.
Phase three: Shape, control and fill.
Learning how to properly shape and fill those brows will truly change your entire face.
I am in love with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. Total game changer in my opinion.
Here is a drugstore dupe that I also reach for!
I created a picture to help illustrate shaping your brows. You should be able to draw three invisible lines, using your nose as a guide. The first will show you about how far your inner corner should come, the second where your arch should begin and the third, where the brow should end.
You always want your brow to be darkest at the tail and lightest at the inner corner.
By taking a brow product and creating tiny strokes at the inner corner, you will create the illusion that more real hair exists there. Tiny flicks of the Brow Wiz work perfectly. After you have filled in the brow in it is SO important to flip that baby around and run the spoolie through them. This will make sure to make sure to eliminate any harsh lines and create a much more natural looking brow.
Here you can see how I fill the inner corner by using that flicking upward motion and brushing through them afterwards. The inner corner is always, always the most light handed work.
Let me know if you try these tricks and find them helpful!

Bonus tip:
To help those newly shapes brows have an even more open appearance, always apply a highlight under the brow bone and in your inner corner. This highlight lifts the eyes and makes them appear so much larger.
