Do you ever have those days where you're just longing for bedtime?
Well let me tell you, with a 2 year old boy and a 5 year old boy the energy level is pretty much at a ten from the time they wake up until the time they go to bed. So I would say a good 9 out of 10 days this mama is longing for some relaxation at the end of the day.
Don't get me wrong, typically that relaxation for me means plopping down on the couch or in bed, watching my realty TV (I am addicted to WAY too many), and consuming too many calories before bed.
However, there are definitely other nights where I feel like pampering myself a little bit more than that. So I figured I would take you along with me on one of those nights and show you some things that I do that really help me wind down.
My favorite part about this routine is that it's affordable, and super easy to do.
First step: Essential oils
I swear by essential oil's. As someone who suffers from anxiety, it's extra difficult for me to just turn my brain off. This calming oil is amazing. I typically start burning this about an hour before the boys go to bed. I also love to put a few drops of lavender on my pillow at night. It'll help ensure that once you're asleep, you stay asleep.
Next up (my personal favorite): Face masks
I cannot, cannot, cannot stress the importance of face masks. Not only are they amazing for your skin and part of my normal skincare routine, but there is nothing that relaxes me quite like having an amazing calming and hydrating face mask on. The bonus to this: most masks tell you on the back to lay down while it's on your face. LISTEN TO THEM! Kick those feet up, take some relaxing breaths and just unwind.
Lastly: Stretching
I love to stretch before bed. Try to get in the habit of sitting down on the floor for about 10 minutes before getting into bed every night. Simple stretches and basic yoga positions really help calm your brain and they also make you feel so much better in the morning. The age of being sore quickly snuck up on me so this one is a win, win.
What do you do to wind down after an extra long day? I would love to hear some more tips and tricks!
One last thing to add before I go: WINE. But that's a given, right?
Sweet dreams, loves!
